Celebrate Tolkien Week 2026 with Official The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Cardboard Cutouts

Celebrate Tolkien Week with a Journey into Middle-earth

The leaves are beginning to turn, second breakfast is calling and there has never been a better excuse to return to Middle-earth! Tolkien Week is here, running from 20th-26th September 2026, with Hobbit Day on Tuesday, 22nd September - making this the perfect time for fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to celebrate the extraordinary fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Whether your idea of celebrating involves an epic film marathon, a Hobbit-inspired feast, a themed party or simply displaying your love for Middle-earth, our collection of official The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings cardboard cutouts can make the occasion even more memorable.

At Starstills, you'll find everything from lifesize character standees to complete character collections and dramatic Middle-earth backdrops, giving fans plenty of ways to transform an ordinary room into somewhere worthy of an adventure.

What Is Hobbit Day?

Hobbit Day is celebrated every year on 22nd September, the shared birthday of two of Tolkien's most famous Hobbits: Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. It falls during Tolkien Week and has become a wonderful opportunity for fans around the world to celebrate Tolkien's stories and the characters, places and adventures of Middle-earth.

And what better way to mark the occasion than by inviting a few familiar faces to the party?

With an official cardboard cutout, your favourite character can become part of the celebrations. Position your standee beside the buffet table, welcome guests at the entrance or create a dedicated Middle-earth photo area. Unlike most party decorations, a lifesize cutout immediately becomes a focal point - and inevitably attracts plenty of photographs!

Assemble Your Own Fellowship

When it comes to The Lord of the Rings, it's difficult to think of a more iconic group of adventurers than the Fellowship.

For anyone who doesn't want to choose just one favourite, our collection includes an official Lord of the Rings Fellowship Cardboard Cutout Set of 8. The collection is ideal for creating an impressive display for a film marathon, Tolkien celebration or themed event.

Imagine guests arriving to find a whole collection of familiar Middle-earth faces waiting for them. Suddenly, your living room, party venue or cinema room feels a little less ordinary!

The beauty of cardboard cutouts is that they also make brilliant photo props. Guests can pose alongside their favourite characters, recreate their own Fellowship photographs and share the results on social media.

A Hobbit-Worthy Celebration

If you're firmly on the side of the Hobbits, there's something for you too.

Our range currently includes an official Lord of the Rings Hobbit Collection Cardboard Cutout Set of 4, designed to add some unmistakable Middle-earth character to a home, party or movie marathon.

A Hobbit-themed gathering is also one of the easiest - and tastiest - ways to celebrate Hobbit Day. Think rustic food, plenty of cakes, bread, cheese, fruit and, naturally, enough supplies to accommodate first breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses and anything else your guests can manage.

Add your cardboard cutouts around the room and you have the beginnings of a wonderfully fun celebration.

For extra atmosphere, use earthy greens, browns and golds for your decorations, add artificial foliage and battery-operated candles, and create a long dining table for your own Shire-inspired feast.

Welcome the Elves to Your Tolkien Week Celebration

Not everyone dreams of settling down in the Shire. Perhaps the elegance of the Elves is more your style.

Our official collection includes Thranduil from The Hobbit as a lifesize cardboard cutout, capturing the Elven King in his distinctive robes and crown.

A lifesize character like Thranduil can make an eye-catching decoration for a Tolkien-themed birthday, fantasy event or home cinema room. It also makes a memorable present for a fan who already owns the books and films and is looking for something a little different.

After all, wrapping up a lifesize Middle-earth character is considerably more surprising than another pair of socks!

Create an Epic Middle-earth Photo Backdrop

Characters aren't the only way to bring Middle-earth into your celebrations.

Our official Lord of the Rings range also includes a growing selection of cardboard backdrops, allowing you to create a larger themed display. Current designs include an aged-effect map of Middle-earth, black-and-white map artwork, Lord of the Rings logo designs and the spectacular Gates of Argonath.

Pair one with your character cutouts and you've instantly created a themed photo area for your guests.

A Middle-earth map backdrop, for example, could sit behind your Fellowship for group photographs, while the Gates of Argonath design can add an adventurous feel to a movie-night display.

These backdrops are particularly useful for parties and events because they help establish the theme without requiring you to redecorate an entire room.

Venture to the Darker Side of Middle-earth

Of course, Middle-earth wouldn't be quite so exciting without its villains and monsters.

If your favourite moments involve Mordor, Moria and the forces of darkness, there are official backdrop designs for you as well.

Our collection includes Eye of Sauron designs, including a landscape version depicting the Eye overlooking the fiery surroundings of Mordor. There's also a dramatic Balrog cardboard backdrop inspired by the depths of Moria and an Uruk-hai backdrop featuring the unmistakable black handprint against a bold red background.

They're brilliant choices for Halloween parties as well as Tolkien Week, and can be combined with other decorations to create a dramatically darker corner of your Middle-earth display.

Host the Ultimate Lord of the Rings Movie Marathon

Tolkien Week also provides the perfect excuse to clear the diary, prepare the snacks and settle down for a serious Middle-earth movie marathon.

Cardboard cutouts can turn the occasion from simply watching the films into a proper themed event. Place characters beside the television, use a Middle-earth map as your photo backdrop and create a snack table inspired by a Hobbit feast.

If you're inviting friends, you could even encourage everyone to dress as their favourite character. Your cardboard guests won't complain about the dress code - and they're guaranteed to stay until the end!

Don't forget to take plenty of photographs. A lifesize standee beside the sofa can make even a simple film night look like a full Tolkien Week celebration.

A Fantastic Gift for The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings Fans

Finding a gift for a devoted Tolkien fan isn't always easy - particularly when their shelves are already filled with books, films and collectibles.

That's where an official Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit cardboard cutout offers something rather different.

A character standee can be used as bedroom décor, a home cinema accessory, a party decoration or simply a wonderfully unexpected addition to a fan's collection. And because there are individual characters, character sets and scenic backdrops to choose from, you can select something that suits both their favourite part of Middle-earth and the space available.

It's certainly one present they're unlikely to overlook when they walk into the room.
