Making This Year’s New Year’s Celebration Fun

Making This Year’s New Year’s Celebration Fun

Oh the expectations of a great New Year’s Eve. We all build it up into something big, then as the day gets nearer, we start to panic, and by its arrival, we end up trying to do something cool and spontaneous…and often failing.

But it needn’t be this way! There are plenty of things we can do to ensure a good time is had by all, so if you’ve had a history of disappointing New Year’s Eve celebrations, read on to see how this year could be the start of something new. Fun!

Manage Expectations

If you set it up to be something once in a lifetime, or amazing, chances are you’ll fall short. So instead of aiming for the best night ever, set the bar a little bit lower, and just see New Year’s Eve as a chance to do something nice with people you care about.

Drink

It’s never wise to drink too much, even on special days, so while there is absolutely nothing wrong in enjoying a nice drink with others, just be sensible and do so in moderation.

People

Be with people that you care about, and those that care about you, too. People and places make parties (so do our lifesize carboard cutouts!), so worry less about some of the other details than being with those you love, and those you love being with!

Venue

The place may be at home, or another house party. A night out is going to be double the price it was last Saturday for the same venue, so make sure you choose well. It is perfectly fine to not have a fancy destination or venue, provided the one you do have can accommodate your whole group comfortably.

Reflection

The only reflecting should be in the makeup mirror, not on life or love or work or anything else that’s going to get you out of the party zone. It will only lead you to become melancholy which is not the thing to do at New Year. Instead of looking back then, celebrate the good and positive, looking forward to the future and all that it will bring.

Dress-Code

It can be fairly formal, or even fancy, but make sure that everyone gets the memo, and conforms. It’s probably best to make it semi-formal, so that everyone feels comfortable and can find something to wear without any huge effort required.

Pace

Go easy from the start and you’ll last the night. Nobody wants to hear Big Ben from inside the downstairs toilet or have to go to bed too early. It will be a late night by definition.

Resolutions

Quickly made, quickly broken. Why not save them for the next day, or even the day after? Have some real contemplation prior to committing to life-changing behaviours. If you’ve thought of them leading up to the night, try not to share them too much, as people will be quick to remind of the same should you struggle to stick to them.

Don’t make New Year something it isn’t. Keep it simple and enjoyable, honest and fun. Be among true friends and family, and give yourself the chance to truly enjoy your New Year celebrations!
