The Definitive Marvel Movie Watching Guide – Part Two

The Definitive Marvel Movie Watching Guide – Part Two

Here is the second half of our listing of the Marvel movies and television shows, in order, that lead up to the much-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War. Line up your best friends and an assortment of super hero-friendly snacks for a festival of great Marvel Comics entertainment. Don’t forget to create the right atmosphere with a few life-sized Marvel cardboard cutouts!

Reminder, as with all Marvel movies, make sure you watch the movie through the final credits to catch all the scenes of upcoming films hidden there.

Here is Part Two of our Avengers viewing guide. Don’t miss Part One.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 (2017)

These two films stand alone at this part in the Marvel series. You can watch them back to back (in theory they take place only a few months apart) or space them in chronological order with the other Marvel movies. Just make sure you view both movies before you watch Thor: Ragnarok.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1 (2013)

The television series is optional. It doesn’t introduce new characters or other essential information about the main Marvel characters in the Avengers but it does provide background on the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

The gang is back together again plus a couple of new heroes are introduced. Enjoy!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 (2014)

Another optional television season if you’d like added information about S.H.I.E.L.D and how it interacts with the world.

Jessica Jones Season 1 (2015)

This television series is set in New York but it remains separate from the Avengers characters other than a few minor references. It is an excellent television show in its own right, however, if you wanted to learn more about the rest of the Marvel universe.

Ant-Man (2015)

This movie largely stands alone but there is some backstory revealed in this film that will eventually tie into to the Marvel movies that follow.

Captain America: Civil War (2016)

In spite of the Captain America title, this is really an ensemble cast of many of your favourite super heroes. It’s effectively a sequel to Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Doctor Strange (2016)

This is our first introduction to Doctor Strange.

Luke Cage Season 1 (2016)

Another optional but quality television series. Luke Cage has some overlap with the Jessica Jones television show but little with the events that take place in the Marvel movies.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

With so many past versions of Spider-Man we’ve seen over the years, who would have thought this reboot of the character could be so fresh and exciting?

Agent Carter Seasons 1 and 2 (2015-16)

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Seasons 3 and 4 (2015-16)

Iron Fist Season 1 (2017)

The Defenders Season 1 (2017)

If you must skip part of the Marvel collection, these are the ones to bypass this time around.

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

This film has generally been hailed as the best (so far) of the Thor movies, and that’s saying something.

Black Panther (2018)

This film broke attendance records around the world with its smart take on a world that was completely new to us. Great characters helped this movie live up to its hype.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Catch it in the theatre.
