How to Celebrate This Year’s Oscars

How to Celebrate This Year’s Oscars

We love movies and the upcoming Academy Awards presentation is the perfect reason to celebrate cinema with our friends. Here are great ideas on ways to make the most of the occasion and maximise your movie experience. Even if the Oscars aren’t on at a good time to watch them live in your time zone, you can get in on the fun with these party ideas.

1.Dress for Oscar Success

Have friends dress in their red carpet finest to watch the replay of the Oscars and discuss the winners. Add a few celebrity cardboard cutouts to your décor to make the spirit of the event come alive. Another option is to have your guests dress up like their favourite characters from the movies. You can even create prizes to present for the Best Costume, Best Actor, or other categories to keep your party interesting. Make your own funny statues to hand out or purchase inexpensive toys or knickknacks to hand out to your award winners.

2.Time Warp

One of the easiest ways to watch the Oscars is simply to record the show and gather your gang together to watch the recording. Even if the news has already reached you of the winners in some of the categories, you can still have a great time watching the ceremony.

Liven things up by having your guests place their bets on the winners in each category. Collect their wagers before the ceremony and then, the night of your party, you can reveal the winners and losers from among your friends. After each award is announced on the recording, you can discuss who wagered correctly. At the end, the person who was able to guess the most winners correctly can be crowned the official winner at your party.

3.The Best of Best Pictures

Prepare for the Oscars by hosting a Best Pictures party. Break out the popcorn and put up a few decorations to get your guests into the spirit. Pick your favourites from the recent Oscar Best Picture winners to create your own film festival. Go with more recent winners or use it as an opportunity to present the classic films that won in past generations.

4.Picture the Best Cinematography

Rather that simply picking winners of the Best Picture, pick a category and make that your theme. Discuss the wonders of cinematography by viewing past winners. Mix and match old and new winners to highlight how cinematography has changed over the years.

If music speaks more to you, make a festival of the top musicals or the winners for Best Musical Score or Best Song. Make it a sing-a-long so that everyone can participate. You can make it easier by printing out pages with the song lyrics to encourage participation and make things a little easier.

5.Starring Star Wars

With the movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi nominated for the Oscars, now could be a perfect time to host a Star Wars film festival. Give your guests a chance to watch the films leading up to The Last Jedi so they can better appreciate the storyline and the evolution of the special effects.

Now all you have to do is go practise your weepy acceptance speeches!
