Perk Up Your Retail Space for Greater Sales

Retail can be challenging. Trying to get enough floor traffic, completing with big box stores, and purchasing the right inventory are not for the faint of heart. To make things even more complicated, brick and mortar stores continue to face growing competition from online retailers. Here are ways to make the most of your retail space – and maximise sales – by updating the look of your business.

Signage

That sign on the front of your business might be fresh and new but often, after a few years, we no longer see it. Even when brand new, many signs are more functional than attractive. Take a few minutes to make sure your sign does your company justice, ensure that all the lights are working, the colours are still bright, and your company name is visible from the street. Next, check to see if people walking by can see your company name. Often front signage is high up where it will be seen by people in passing vehicles. Make sure you also have signs that are eye-catching for pedestrians.

Be Different

If you are one of many coffee shops, restaurants, or gift shops, you need to make sure you stand out somehow. Hopefully your company has a clever name that is memorable and will help attract your target market. Does your business look inviting from the window? Once people get inside does your décor encourage them to stop and shop or eat? Often storefronts have a bland interior making them seem interchangeable. Think of clever ways to add flare. Cardboard cutouts can be entertaining. Think in terms of a lifesize cutout of the Queen, movie characters, or television stars. Cartoon characters can help to charm young children and stand-in cutouts can enable people to take pictures of themselves in the midst of famous scenes.

Get the Right Vibe

Is your business warm and inviting so that it encourages people to linger over a cup of tea? Does it seem clean and modern, filled with mouth-watering smells of delicious baked goods? Is it filled with wonders that visitors want to explore in order to find the perfect gift or clothing for a special event? Think about how your business and staff might seem to a stranger wandering in off the street. Make sure your lighting, furnishings, and goods all fit together to make customers feel welcome.

Keep It Fresh

Growing businesses aren’t static. Once you have the right feeling for your business, don’t stop there. Keep introducing new and seasonal offerings. Refresh your décor to reflect the changing seasons or your current specials. Give people a reason to keep stopping by your business to see what’s new. Update your window displays and make them interesting and attractive. You want customers to feel that they can rely on your business to provide what they expect while also keeping up with new trends. Make them want to come by often without feeling like they are overstaying their welcome.
